Article XVI, Section 49 of the Texas Constitution
Adopted February 15, 1876:
The Legislature shall have power, and it shall be its duty, to protect by law from forced sale a certain portion of the personal property of all heads of families, and also of unmarried adults, male and female.

Chapter 42 of the Texas Property Code is the main, but not the only, statutory provision that protects debtors' personal property from seizure.
