Article VIII, Section 19 of the Texas Constitution

As amended November 3, 1981:

Farm products, livestock, and poultry in the hands of the producer, and family supplies for home and farm use, are exempt from all taxation until otherwise directed by a two-thirds vote of all the members elect to both houses of the Legislature.

Editor Comments

This section was added in 1879. It was the first change made to the relatively new Texas Constitution of 1876.

The section has been amended once. The amendment added livestock and poultry to the section's exemption.
