Article III, Section 45 of the Texas Constitution ("Power of Courts to Change Venue")

Adopted February 15, 1876:

The power to change the venue in civil and criminal cases shall be vested in the courts, to be exercised in such manner as shall be provided by law; and the Legislature shall pass laws for that purpose.

Editor Comments

Note that Section 56(a) of this article prohibits the Legislature from passing a "local or special law" changing venue in a civil or criminal case.
