Article III, Section 45 of the Texas Constitution ("Power of Courts to Change Venue")

Adopted February 15, 1876:

The power to change the venue in civil and criminal cases shall be vested in the courts, to be exercised in such manner as shall be provided by law; and the Legislature shall pass laws for that purpose.

Editor Comments

Note that Section 56(a) of this article prohibits the Legislature from passing any local or special law "changing the venue in civil or criminal cases."
